 Summary from Goodreads:

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

Summary from Goodreads:

The capital has fallen.

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

my review!

First off, I ned to make it clear that I generally strongly dislike high fantasy. I just don’t like books that don’t have electronics or cars. That said, I LOVED that Shadow and Bone series.

Leigh Bardugo is amazing. She creates a world that feels so real and unique.

So, this book is the third book in the Shadow and Bone series. Read the first two books before you read Ruin and Rising (obviously)! I am trying to make this spoiler free, but there may be the occasional tiny spoiler for Shadow and Bone or Siege and Storm.

Ruin and Rising begins a few months after Siege and Storm left off. Alina is in in the underground tunnels under strict scrutiny of the Apparat. Alaina is very weak from events that occurred at the end of Siege and Storm. She cannot summon her powers underground, because she controls sunlight, and there is none.

Alina soon escaped with other Grisha, or those with power over the elements, and her best friend Mal, with whom she has a complicated relationship.

The group of about ten travels until they run in to the lovely Prince Nikolai. Dramatic things happen henceforth that are awesome but

Alina. She was an amazing heroine. She progresses to where she did something that was immensely terrible for her to save others. She puts aside her wants and needs to do what is right for others. She is super powerful and AWESOME. She is the one and only sun summoner which means that she can control sunlight and do AWESOME things with it.

The Darkling. HOW DO PEOPLE LIKE HIM?!

He is NOTHING but evil and darkness. Sure he’s hot or something but HE IS THE ULTIMATE VILLAIN. NO JUST NO. He was even more evil in this book. He makes me sick to my stomach. He can control darkness. He and Alina have a connection because of how powerful they both are.

Nikolai. He was awesome and sassy! He would be an amazing King. His heart is true and he is kind and loyal. He is one of my favorite characters ever. But, I never like him and Alina together because….

MAL MAL MAL MAL MAL. I LOVE MAL! I have since the first time he was introduced. I have shipped him and Alaina the whole entire time. He’s so loyal and completely ignored his wants so Alina could reach her full potential. So, basically,

THE NEAR END OF THIS BOOK HAD ME LIKE

BUT READ IT SO MUCH READ READ THIS READ IT READ IT NOW!

Totally unique world I will so be reading the new series that will be in the Grisha universe!

READ IT.

Your favorite fangirl,

Sarah!
